Casa Tamarindo Artist´s Residency Terms of Service.

Scope of the program:

This is a residency program in São Paulo, SP, at Paraiso neighborhood, dedicated to personal development, art production, friendship, cultural exchange and artistic careers, for creative people.

Conditions of admission:

Candidates are subject to approval, and need to turn in by email artistaramalho@gmail.com:

1. An artistic CV.

2. Cover letter.

3. Link to an online portfolio or something similar. 

Those materials are just know more about the visitor, are not intented for selection purposes. The approval process takes place during comunications by email and agreements between the candidate and the curator, including dates of check in and out. We welcome beginers and experienced artists. 

Accommodations and benefits:

Artists will have a private bedroom with en suite bathroom. They will share kitchen, terrace and studio space. The house has wifi internet connection.

• Once a week curator Rosane Viegas will take the residents to local openings and museums.

• Once a week curator Rosane Viegas will meet with the residents to talk about art or other subjects.

• Residents will have a free woodprint class provided by Rosane Viegas.

Resident activities:

Artists are encouraged to produce art works during the residency, but it is not mandatory, they can just enjoy the art circuit, meet people, dedicate time to studies and chill out if they wish so. No art work will be asked to the artists for the house collection. 

Costs:

One resident fee, in brazilian currency is BRL$ 3950 monthly (around 800 dollars) , extra partner R$ 1975 (50% off, around 400 dollars), optional exibition fee (after approval by curator) is R$ 1900 (385 dollars) includes a text by the house curator, check contract for details.

Since we are back in Resartis we are giving 10% off for this open call, that is, in brazilian currency, R$ 3555 (around 724 dollars)  for one month. Extra company in the same bedroom, is R$ 1975. After agreeing with the arrival and departure dates we will kindly ask the full payment in advance. Residency is only confirmed after payment.

Payment thru Paypal platform is required to confirm residency after the agreement on dates of check in and out. Curator Rosane will provide deposit bank details, and will kindly ask for the full deposit to proceed with reservation. A deposit deadline may be applied to avoid long delays and to allow for other reservations. A 50% refund may be given after cancelations made 30 days before the arrival, after that period no refund is possible, and we will kindly thank you for the support.

Other topics:

Artists may travel outside of Sao Paulo and keep the bedroom as a base. Please let us know if you stay away for more than a day.

Unspecified topics will be decided by the residency curator. We thank you for your kind support.

O exercício de ser artista

“Por que não usar a arte para olhar o mundo, em vez de manter o olhar preso às formas que ela põe em cena?” - Nicolas Bourriaud *

Paira um certo mistério no ar, algo como magia, no fazer artístico. Para desvendar os procedimentos e etapas da criação de uma pintura, o atual trabalho de Ricardo Ramalho se passa em um espaço que começa como ateliê e termina como galeria. Prometida não é uma exposição, mas o processo por entre telas, tintas e conversas no ateliê, o dia a dia do artista a pintar, a montagem e a abertura da exposição.

Prometida é o prólogo de uma exposição de pintura. Porém, não é só sobre o saber fazer (pintar, neste caso), mas sobre o processo criativo, o discurso em montagem, o porquê do trabalho, os caminhos tomados, os resultados, a exibição e a possível venda. Será pintada uma série de telas com a mesma imagem, o deus hindu Ganesha, representado como uma divindade amarela ou vermelha, com uma grande barriga, quatro braços e a cabeça de elefante com uma única presa, montado em um rato. O motivo da pintura pode interessar menos que o processo, mas a repetição da imagem leva a proposta artística à questão da reprodutibilidade, ao limite entre o objeto único e a produção em série industrial. A mão automática que reproduz como máquina. O pensamento kitsch que perpetua uma imagem religiosa consumível. É tudo isso, mas não é apenas sobre pintura.


O artista quer quebrar o encantamento do objeto artístico, destituí-lo de aura, questionar o que o torna uma manifestação única, apresentar sua linguagem poética… São questões que, há muito, perpassam o universo das artes visuais. Nas sessões semanais de pintura, RR revela o trabalho minucioso, rígido e exaustivo de pintar em uma performance que durará algumas semanas. Com as pinturas prontas será possível reocupar o espaço, transformar o ateliê em galeria e montar a exposição Prometida.

O desenrolar da criação dos objetos no dia a dia do ateliê e os preparativos para a exposição, que
estarão visíveis, são as ações centrais da proposta deste projeto. Mas também inclui-se aqui a conversa com a audiência - seja presencialmente seja através de interface digital - quando o ateliê estará aberto em dias específicos. O artista vai apresentar os bastidores da exposição e revelar o seu ofício para quem quiser desfazer a magia da arte pronta para consumo. RR envereda pela estética relacional de Bourriaud, que considera o intercâmbio humano como objeto estético em si, fazendo a obra de arte ser um dispositivo formal para gerar relações entre pessoas. Prometida é uma ação, um encontro, é a performance-pintura que se quer exposição, que termina quando começa.
